The Edson Incident
MichiganHauntedHouses.com recently sat down with Jo Reed-Gifford of The Edson Incident, to discuss what's new at the attraction for the 2018 Halloween Season!
What's new at The Edson Incident for 2018? Do you have any new rides, attractions, or special features that Haunt Seekers should know about?
New theme as we enter into our third year! Still 5 decks of terror! Dark cloaked figures, strange lights and chanting are seen below decks! Will you remain unaltered from your experience with the Edson Incident?! Also, new for 2018 is 'The Dismazed' - A Halloween themed maze.
What are you most excited about for the 2018 Halloween Season?
The new route, characters and theme is great this 2018. There are still elements from the previous year, tying into the continued storyline.
What differentiates The Edson Incident from other local haunts in Michigan?
We are the ONLY haunt aboard a Vietnam war era Destroyer in the Midwest! The haunt takes you through parts of the ship not normally open to the general public tours. So, you get the bonus of seeing the ship while being terrorized!
How long has The Edson Incident been in business? Can you tell us a bit more about The Edson Incident's history?
We opened in 2016 and have grown exponentially since. The USS Edson is a museum ship dedicated to those who fought in the Vietnam war and proceeds of the haunt do go towards the restoration and preservation of this magnificent ship. We work hard keeping this amazing piece of history going and even harder to terrify you as the Edson Incident. It's a one-of-a-kind experience!
What's your favorite experience since opening The Edson Incident?
The creativity to create something terrifyingly great. All aspects of the ship is used. Add in jump scares, props, fog, and the ship alone at night is creepy, we deliver to our guests something that they don't forget and keeps them coming back each year.
How long is a typical haunt experience at The Edson Incident from start to finish?
20-25 minutes from start to finish. As mentioned, it is five decks of terror!
On a scale from 1 to 10, how scary would you say The Edson Incident is? Why?
I say a strong 9-10. We regularly have people who can't finish the scare and be escorted off from being too scared to finish. The ship is dark, creepy, old with lots of places for scares. Great character actors and props, lighting and fog, make it a great haunt.
Does The Edson Incident's property have any real haunted history? Do you have a spooky encounter you'd like to share?
The USS Edson served during Vietnam and was nicknamed by the Vietnamese military The Grey Ghost of the Vietnam Coast, due to the number of times they thought they sunk, but always seemed to reappear in battle. She is haunted and even our actors have experienced paranormal activity during our Halloween season. There are public ghost hunts spring through summer.
What inspired you to open up a haunted attraction? What's your favorite part of the business?
We've always loved Halloween and it's a great way to serve the community as well as serve The USS Edson.
How has new technology (i.e. animatronics, special props, etc) helped you to enhance The Edson Incident?
We are able to add props, use techniques and technology that associate with the Ship and storyline. It's a Destroyer, so we segued from the environment already present on the ship and built off that for a creepy terrifying experience.
Can The Edson Incident accommodate large groups? How many people can experience The Edson Incident together as a group?
We do accommodate large groups, 10 or less is our recommendation, only to allow for those to truly experience the haunt. Less is more, as there are scares throughout the ship on every level, and we want our guests to experience the full effect of the Edson Incident.
Does The Edson Incident offer any special deals, discounts, or coupons?
We do offer group rates, VIP passes and combo packages for both the haunt and the maze.
Anything else you'd like to let us know about The Edson Incident?
Experience The Edson Incident... you won't regret this one-of-a-kind Halloween attraction!
